Looking better Henman wins in straight sets to reach third roundPosted: Thursday June 29, 2000 11:49 AM
LONDON (Reuters) -- Home favorite Tim Henman booked his place in the third round at Wimbledon on Thursday with a workmanlike 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Arnaud Clement of France. Henman's experience on grass told against the smaller, stockier Clement as the Briton slammed down 16 aces to Clement's three on Centre Court. Clement, wearing a crimson bandana and wrap-around Edgar Davids-style dark glasses, looked almost casual at times, committing a string of unforced errors. Henman finished off the Frenchman, who beat three-time finalist Goran Ivanisevic in the first round, on his third matchpoint when the Frenchman hit yet another forehand long.
