Fifth seed upset by Sweden's Johansson

LONDON (Reuters) -- Russia's Yevgeny Kafelnikov, the number five seed, was knocked out of Wimbledon on Thursday 6-1, 7-6, 6-4 by Sweden's Thomas Johansson as the massacre of the men's seeds continued in the second round.

Kafelnikov, who called the trainer in the second set to massage his right shoulder, never really got into the match against Johansson, who had lost 10 times in the first round of tournaments this year.

The first set was a 22-minute nightmare for Kafelnikov, winner of the French and Australian Opens, who was made to look flat-footed and one-paced.

He salvaged his serve just once against the rampaging Swede. Johansson raced to a 5-2 lead in the second set of a one-sided contest until Kafelnikov suddenly found his form for the first time to claw back to 5-5.

He lost his serve with a string of double faults and called in the trainer for three minutes of treatment.

Then, double-faulting twice when it looked painful to raise his shoulder, Kafelnikov lost the tiebreak 7-0.

In the third set, the pair level-pegged all the way to the last game when the lackluster Kafelnikov, who was serving, crumbled in a contest he had never looked like winning.
