LONDON (Reuters) -- French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten crushed qualifier Justin Bower 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 in the second round of the men's singles at Wimbledon on Thursday.

The flamboyant Brazilian's powerful serving and blistering groundstrokes frustrated the inexperienced South African as he was left stranded at the baseline throughout the encounter.

The fourth seed is now on a 15-match winning streak and on current form should easily be able to make it through to the quarterfinals, equalling his 1999 performance here.

Kuerten's only lapse in concentration came in the seventh game of the final set when he played a few wild shots to gift Bower the break. But Kuerten came back strongly and wrapped up the match with a backhand cross court winner five games later.
