LONDON, June 28 (Reuters) -- Sweden's Thomas Enqvist, the only seed apart from Pete Sampras left in the top half of the Wimbledon men's singles draw, moved into the fourth round with a 6-3 6-7 2-6 6-3 6-3 win over German qualifier Christan Vinck.

But he almost threw it away. Leading 5-3 in the second set, the No. 9 seed went completely to pieces, losing rhythm on his serve and accuracy on his ground strokes.

He served 16 double faults, and vented his frustration by throwing his racket and yelling at the sky.

The left-handed Vinck, ranked 160th in the world, took advantage, raising his game. He pulled off a series of spectacular passing shots and won the majority of the baseline rallies.

But nerves got to Vinck in the fourth set and he faltered with a a pair of double faults in the sixth game, allowing Enqvist a window of opportunity to break.

The experienced Swede grew calmer and his serve began to swing again. He broke Vinck a second time in the ninth game to seize the initiative.

Rain halted play after 2-1/2 hours with the score 3-2 to Enqvist in the final set and he broke immediately on the players' return to take a winning lead.

Enqvist now plays Jan-Michael Gambill of the U.S. in round of 16.
