Solid play Agassi back in form against GolmardPosted: Saturday July 01, 2000 02:03 PM
WIMBLEDON, England (Reuters) -- World number one Andre Agassi hurried to a 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Frenchman Jerome Golmard on Saturday to reach the last 16 at Wimbledon. After his two-day, five-set marathon against Todd Martin in the second round, during which he saved two match points, the second-seeded American looked keen to finish the job early, dismissing Golmard in one hour 42 minutes. Using his trademark early returns to devastating effect, Agassi broke Golmard's serve in the fourth game of the first set and twice in the second. Watched by girlfriend Steffi Graf from one side of a packed number one court and film star Tom Cruise from the other, Agassi made his final break in the 10th game of the third set with a spectacular lob and a backhand pass.
