WIMBLEDON, England (Reuters) -- Defending champion Lindsay Davenport set up a fourth-round match with fellow American Jennifer Capriati when she beat Argentine Paola Suarez 6-4, 6-2 at Wimbledon on Saturday.

The match was a tough one for the world number two with both women getting two breaks of serve in the opening set before Davenport took the deciding break to go 5-4 up.

The tall Davenport, who has had back and ankle injuries recently, did not look completely at ease on Court One at the start but she got into her stride by the end.

Davenport broke baseline-hugger Suarez, who had never gone beyond the first round here in five previous attempts, to love in the third game of the second set.

By then Davenport was completely in command, hitting two aces in the final game as she finished off the match in 62 minutes.

Davenport, unable to defend the women's doubles title here after partner Corina Morariu retired injured when the pair met in the first-round singles, said she had a game plan ready for the meeting with Capriati.

"I will definitely have to be the aggressor from the beginning," she said. "I am going to have to really go for my returns."

Davenport said it had taken her a few days to get into the swing of Wimbledon this year.

"I don't think I have the same confidence as last year," she said. "This time I was really fighting it for a few days and finally in the last two or three days I have clicked.

"Today I felt I was timing the ball a lot better than in the first two matches."

But the best part of Saturday for Davenport was the Centre Court parade of champions when she joined more than 60 others who have made Wimbledon history over the past 80 years.

"It was unbelievable to be part of that and I am just happy that I could be there," said Davenport.
