Raymond reaches quarters

American gets to final eight for first time

LONDON (Reuters) -- Lisa Raymond of the U.S. beat Olga Barabanschikova of Belarus 6-4, 6-2 to be the first player to reach the Wimbledon singles quarterfinals.

It is the first time Raymond, 26, has reached the last eight of a Grand Slam tournament. She won the Birmingham grass court title two weeks ago, only the second singles title of her career.

She will now meet the winner of the match between eighth seed Serena Williams and Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand.
