Gustavo Kuerten's love affair with Paris continues. AP

Charming champions

Kuerten, Capriati make impression

Fans at Roland Garros are among the most passionate anywhere, either loving or hating the players who toil before them. Lucky for them, both 2001 French Open singles champions were crowd favorites, and got to enjoy their moment along with the adoring public. Gustavo Kuerten captured his third title in the last five years, beating Alex Corretja in the final, while Jennifer Capriati's win over Kim Clijsters put her halfway to a Grand Slam.
