NEW YORK (Reuters) -- The U.S. Open fourth round match between fourth-seeded Australian Lleyton Hewitt and 16th-seeded German Tommy Haas has been postponed and will be concluded on Wednesday, tournament officials have announced.

The match had been suspended by the day's second rain delay with Haas leading 6-3, 2-2.

Although the rain had stopped, officials did not want the Haas-Hewitt match to run into the scheduled night program, for which the stadium must be cleared of fans to allow entry to a new group of ticket holders.

The night schedule features a women's quarterfinal between former champions Lindsay Davenport and Serena Williams. That was to be followed by 19-year-old American Andy Roddick against unseeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo.

Earlier on Tuesday, rain halted play for about 80 minutes during the day's opening match, another fourth round clash between seventh seed Yevgeny Kafelnikov and 12th-seeded Frenchman Arnaud Clement, eventually won by the Russian 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.

In between the men's matches, women's top seed Martina Hingis beat unseeded Czech Daja Bedanova 6-2, 6-0 in a 42-minute quarterfinal.
