Rumors of his demise were greatly exaggerated. Having grown tired of being asked when he would retire, Pete Sampras silenced his critics Sunday with a victory over old friend (and foe) Andre Agassi in the men's finals of the U.S. Open. SI's Jon Wertheim says this victory solidifies Sampras' status as the best player in the history of the game.
