NEW YORK (AP) -- Tim Henman of Britain lost his first set. And his second. And his third.

The fifth-seeded Henman was beaten by 26th-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 in the third round Monday. The contest was rained out Sunday.

Henman, who owns one of the top pure serve-and-volley games on tour, never seemed to get on track against his Chela, committing 42 unforced errors and failed to convert any of his five break-point opportunities. Chela was 5-for-9 in the match, which lasted 1 hour, 49 minutes.

In the fourth round, Chela will face 11th-seeded American Andy Roddick, who beat Alex Corretja of Spain 6-4, 6-1, 7-6 (6).

The Argentine, who has two career singles titles, has never reached the fourth round at a Grand Slam tournament before. His best performance before this year came at the Australian Open in 2001 when he reached the third round.

In majors this year, Chela was eliminated from the second round in Australia and the first round at both the French Open and Wimbledon.

Henman, who reached the fourth round at the U.S. Open in 1998 and '96, won his ninth career title earlier this year in Adelaide, Australia.

He has reached the semifinals at Wimbledon four of the last five years, the fourth round at the Australian Open earlier this year and was ousted in the second round at the French Open.
