Suarez, Ruano Pascual win doubles Posted: Sunday September 08, 2002 3:11 PMNEW YORK (AP) -- Paola Suarez and Virginia Ruano Pascual won their second grand slam women's doubles title this year, beating Elena Dementieva and Janette Husarova 6-2, 6-1 in the U.S. Open final Sunday. Suarez of Argentina and Ruano Pascual of Spain, the two-time reigning French Open champions, took only 64 minutes to beat the sixth-seeded pairing of Dementieva of Russia and Husarova of Slovakia. The new champions, the No. 2 seeds, dropped only one set at the Open, and broke Dementieva and Husarova twice each without offering them any break chances. "We play different doubles than all the other players," Suarez said. Suarez and Ruano Pascual won their 14th career title together and their sixth this year. They won dlrs 350,000, taking each women's career earnings to more than $2 million.
