King of the clay
Spain paid homage to French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero on Monday following the 23-year-old's first victory in a Grand Slam final. Ferrero, long tipped as heir apparent to the clay title, beat Dutchman Martin Verkerk 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 in the most one-sided final at Roland Garros since 1978 to banish memories of last year's surprise defeat by compatriot Albert Costa.
