Grand Slams won't distribute more prize money

PARIS, June 7 (Reuters) -- Bosses of the four tennis Grand Slam tournaments have thrown out demands from players for more cash.

The Grand Slam Committee said on Saturday it had held talks with "key constituents of the tennis family."

The committee, a body uniting the four major tournaments -- Wimbledon plus the U.S., Australian and French Opens -- said the ATP had proposed significant additional financial commitments to men's "player compensation," or prize money, from the Grand Slams.

However, each Grand Slam re-confirmed its individual right to continue determining levels of pay and unanimously rejected the players' proposal.

Each Grand Slam, as not-for-profit organizations, also explained their 100 percent re-investment in tennis.

"The Grand Slam Committee is committed to further dialogue with all key constituents on issues of importance to the future direction of the sport," an ITF statement read.

"There will be no further comment by the Grand Slam Committee during Roland Garros."

The ATP would not comment on the statement.
