BASTAD, Sweden (AP) -- Magnus Gustafsson opened his Swedish Open title defense with a victory Monday, beating Italy's Vincenzo Santopadre 6-2, 6-4. Gustafsson, seeded third, is seeking his four tournament title. Compatriots Mats Wilander and Bjorn Borg each won three Swedish Open titles. Gustafsson, 32, had not played for more than three months due to a back injury. Earlier, wild card Andreas Vinciguerra of Sweden beat Richard Fromberg of Australia, 7-5, 6-4. Germany's Bernd Karbacher was ousted by Martin Rodriguez. The Argentinian won 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.
