BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (Ticker) -- Top seed Amelie Mauresmo of France captured her first career WTA Tour title Sunday by beating No. 8 Kim Clijsters of Belgium in the final of the $112,500 Slovak Indoor tennis event.

Playing in her fourth career final, Mauresmo finally broke through with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. The 20-year-old Frenchwoman, a runner-up at the Australian Open, earned $16,000.

Clijsters, who claimed her first career title at the Seat Open in Luxembourg a month ago, failed to knock off her third straight seeded player after beating No. 2 Nathalie Dechy of France in the semifinals and No. 4 Sabine Appelmans of Belgium a round earlier.

The 16-year-old Clijsters is having an excellent first season. She also reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, third round at the U.S. Open, and quarterfinals at the Belgian Open.
