PATTAYA, Thailand (AP) -- Home-crowd favorite Tamarie Tanasugarn squandered a 5-2 lead in the third set to fourth-seeded Anne Kremer on Tuesday to exit $112,500 Volvo Women's Open.

The Thai mixed a high level of play with a spate of unforced errors that enabled the gutsy Kremer, of Luxembourg, to carry the first-round match 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 by winning the last five games.

"The one who was more aggressive would go away with the victory, and Kremer just attacked more and played very well at the end," said Tamarine. "On the contrary, I did not get the first serves, which was a turning point in the match."

After over-hitting a forehand crosscourt to give Tamarine a 6-4 victory in the first set, Kremer broke her twice to win the second, 6-3.

Tanasugarn looked like running away with the decider. But Kremer never lost her cool under the tropical heat and won in 2 hours, 2 minutes.

"I just wanted to hang in there and raised my game at 2-5," Kremer said. "Tamarine appeared tired and did not move well anymore. So I took the opportunity to move her more."

Sweden's Asa Carlsson, who won her first WTA Tour event last week in Kuala Lumpur, axed Thai veteran Benjamas Sangaram, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Third-seeded Sylvia Plischke of Austria, ranked 36th in the world, defeated Czech Adriana Gersi, 6-4, 6-1.

Eighth-seeded Nicole Pratt of Australia, the world No. 58, enjoyed a flurry of unforced errors from rising star Iroda Tulyanogova of Uzbekistan to move into the second round, 6-0, 6-2.
