ATLANTA (CNNSI.com) -- NBC Sports and Turner Sports will televise the 2000 Wimbledon tennis championships under a new multi-year contract with the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, officials said Tuesday.

NBC and Turner will provide a record 124.5 hours of coverage of this summer's tournament to American viewers, representing a 25 percent increase in total on-air coverage.

“Wimbledon is televised in 170 countries and fundamental to our choice of TV partners is the quality and quantity of their coverage said Tim Phillips, Chairman of The All England Club.

This will mark NBC’s 32nd consecutive year (1969-present) televising Wimbledon. NBC will present 35.5 hours, beginning July 1 and concluding with the women’s and men’s finals, July 8 and 9.

TNT and CNN/Sports Illustrated will offer 89 hours of coverage, the first time Wimbledon will be available on basic cable. TNT will air 61 hours of primarily daytime coverage, with CNN/Sports Illustrated presenting 28 hours, all in prime time. It's the first time CNN/Sports Illustrated, an all sports-news network, has aired a sporting event of any kind.

Financial terms and exact length of the Wimbledon television contract were not disclosed.
