LUXEMBOURG CITY, Luxembourg (Ticker) -- Anna Kournikova of Russia moved another step closer to her first tournament title with a quarterfinal victory today at the $170,000 Seat Open indoor tennis tournament.

In her first tournament since a disappointing third-round exit at the U.S. Open, the second-seeded Kournikova, 19, rallied to defeat fellow teenager and defending champion Kim Clijsters of Belgium, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 6-1.

Kournikova advances to the semifinals against seventh seed Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria, who defeated fourth seed Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (9-7).

The 17-year-old Clijsters claimed her first career WTA Tour title here last year as a qualifier.

American Jennifer Capriati, seeded third, outlasted sixth-seed Anne-Gaelle Sidot of France, 7-5, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 in another quarterfinal match.

Capriati will play Barbara Rittner of Germany, who defeated Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 6-2 today in a battle of unseeded players.

First prize is $27,000.
