Mauresmo upsets Seles in quarters

SYDNEY, (Reuters) -- Amelie Mauresmo upset third-seed Monica Seles 6-4 7-6 on Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Sydney International.

Mauresmo of France won the Sydney title in 2000 but didn't win another tournament all year while Seles won three finals to finish the year ranked fourth in the world.

Despite defending her title, Mauresmo was unseeded for the final lead-up event for next week's Australian Open and hasn't dropped a set in reaching the last four.

She will play Lindsay Davenport in a repeat of last year's final after the world No. 2 beat Lisa Raymond 7-5 6-4 in Thursday's quarter-finals.
