CHICAGO (AP) -- Anna Kournikova was the first player selected in the World Team Tennis marquee draft Wednesday, picked by the St. Louis Aces for the season that runs from July 9-29.

The New York Hamptons, operated by Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe, chose Jan-Michael Gambill, and Philadelphia's expansion franchise picked Hall of Famer Jimmy Connors.

The Hartford FoxForce protected rights to Monica Seles, while the New York Buzz protected Martina Navratilova and the Delaware Smash protected Serena Williams.

The Kansas City Explorers, Springfield Lasers and Sacramento Capitals all passed on marquee selections.
