Italy advances in Hopman Cup

PERTH, Australia (AP) - Francesca Schiavone and Davide
Sanguinetti won singles matches as Italy beat Greece on Saturday to
advance to the main draw of the Hopman Cup tennis tournament.
Schiavone beat Eleni Daniilidou 6-1, 6-2 in the first match at
the Burswood Dome, and Sanguinetti edged Vasilis Mazaraikis 6-1,
7-6 (6) to give Italy an unbeatable lead in the best-of-three
match.
Italy joins the top-seeded United States, Belgium and France in
Group A. Australia, Spain, Argentina and Switzerland are in Group
B.
The United States, represented by Monica Seles and Jan Michael
Gambill, will begin play Monday against France.
