Kournikova wins, sets up second-round date with Venus

ANTWERP, Belgium (AP) -- Anna Kournikova beat Marlene Weingarter 6-2, 6-1 Tuesday at the $585,000 WTA Diamond Games to set up a second-round match against Venus Williams.

Kournikova is still struggling to get her game back on track after missing most of last year with a broken left foot. She lost in the first round of the Australian Open.

Also Tuesday, Meilen Tu of the United States beat Elena Bovina of Russia 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in 2 1/2 hours.

"She put a lot of pressure on me, she served so well, and I was getting tired," Tu said.

In other first-round action, fifth-seeded Silvia Farina Elia beat Marta Marrero 6-1, 6-2, Els Callens defeated Anca Barna 7-5, 7-6 (10), and Anne Kremer beat Francesca Sciavone 6-4, 6-1.
