OEIRAS, Portugal (AP) -- David Nalbandian of Argentina snared his first title Sunday with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory over Finland's Jarkko Nieminen in the final of the Estoril Open, the European tour's first event on clay.

The women's event provided another first as fourth-seeded Magui Serna of Spain won the first title of her career, beating qualifier Anca Barna of Germany 6-4, 6-2.

Nalbandian, a 20-year-old who is ranked 44th in world, edged the Finn in the first set but both players lost their service games early in the second set.

Nalbandian, who downed the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds on his way to the final, was more composed as the second set went to a tie-break. Nieminen, ranked 66th, committed a double fault and his opponent took the set 7-5 in the tie-break.

Serna, playing in her fourth tour final, produced an attacking and clinical performance to win.

Barna, who ousted top seed Angeles Montolio at Estoril, gave a consistent display in her first final but failed to impose her game.
