NEW YORK (AP) -- Venus Williams replaced Jennifer Capriati at No. 1 in the WTA Tour rankings Monday, and her sister Serena moved into the top five.

Juan Carlos Ferrero's victory at the Monte Carlo Masters tournament pushed him up one spot to No. 2 in the ATP Tour rankings, while Lleyton Hewitt stayed on top.

Venus Williams, who has won four titles in 2002, was also No. 1 from Feb. 25 to March 17.

Capriati slid to second after being upset last week by unseeded Patty Schnyder in the semifinals of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C.

Kim Clijsters was third, trading places with No. 4 Martina Hingis. Serena Williams moved up two slots, Monica Seles stayed at No. 6, and Lindsay Davenport -- still recovering from knee surgery -- fell from No. 5 to No. 7.

Justine Henin, Jelena Dokic and Amelie Mauresmo completed the top 10.

In the men's rankings, Hewitt and Ferrero were followed by reigning French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten, who dropped one place, Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Tim Henman.

Andre Agassi was the top American at No. 10.

Ferrero made a big jump in the ATP Champions Race, going from 71st to 14th. The player he beat in the Monte Carlo final, 1998 French Open champion Carlos Moya, moved from 21st to eighth.

Australian Open champion Thomas Johansson held his lead in the Champions Race, while Henman is second.
