BOL, Croatia (Reuters) -- Eighth seed Katarina Srebotnik overcame a spirited comeback from young Czech Zuzana Ondraskova 6-1 6-7 6-3 to move into the second round of the Bol Open on Monday.

The Slovenian streaked away with the first set on the opening day's play of the claycourt event, wrapping it up in just 20 minutes.

Twenty-one-year-old Ondraskova refused to buckle, though, and as Srebotnik's error count grew she clawed her way back into the set.

She saved a match point in the tiebreak before going on to clinch it on her third set point 9-7.

Srebotnik's quality told in the decider, the Slovenian breaking early before securing victory.

The only other first round match on the opening day saw Italy's Tathiana Garbin beat Tatiana Perebiynis 6-4 6-2.

Anna Kournikova continues her quest for a first WTA title on the Dalmatian island on Tuesday when she takes on fellow Russian Julia Vakulenko in the first round.
