STUTTGART, Germany (AP) -- Pete Sampras has withdrawn from next week's US$2.45 million Eurocard Open because of a flu, organizers said Friday.

Sampras, a former No. 1 who is now No. 3 in the world, has not played since late August.

He missed the U.S. Open because of a herniated disc in his lower back.

Sampras became the second star to withdraw from the Stuttgart tournament. Patrick Rafter dropped out because of a shoulder injury, which requires surgery.

All other Top 50 players have signed for the indoor tournament, one of the Super 9 events.
