DAVID FLEMING

Biography

David Fleming joined the staff of SPORTS ILLUSTRATED in April of 1994. Currently a Staff Writer at the magazine, he primarily covers the National Football League but can be found covering a variety of topics during the offseason. Fleming also appears freq uently on CNN/SI, offering commentary and analysis of the happenings in the NFL for the 24-hour sports news network.

Prior to joining SI, Fleming worked at The Cincinnati Post from 1992-94 and at the Mason Pulse-Journal from 1990-92. During his time at The Post, Fleming was named the Ohio prep sportswriter of the year in 1993 and 1994. He graduated with a BA in English from Miami University (Ohio) in 1990, where he won four varsity letters in wrestling and served as team captain as a junior and senior.

Fleming counts his story on Detroit Red Wing defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov during the 1997 Stanley Cup among his favorite features while at SI. During the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta he wrote a daily on-line column, which included trying out for the Olymp ic bobsled team, attending 10 events in 10 hours and covering a nudist colony's nude Olympics. The first story he wrote for the magazine was on a 75-pound catfish in an Ohio lake that could not be caught.

Born in Dearborn, Michigan, Fleming and his wife currently reside in North Carolina with their 110-pound yellow Lab, Scoop. In his free time, Fleming enjoys scuba diving, golf, hockey, painting and running.
