JOHN GIANNONE
Biography
John Giannone is the Midwest correspondent for CNN/Sports Illustrated, the 24-hour sports news network. He is based in the network's Chicago bureau.
Before joining CNN/Sports Illustrated, Giannone worked at the New York Daily News, where he was the Yankees beat reporter for two years, including the Yankees' 1996 World Championship season. At the Daily News, he also covered the Mets and worked as a features reporter. From 1989 to 1993, Giannone worked at the New York Post, where he was the beat reporter covering the Giants, Jets and Islanders.
In broadcasting, Giannone worked in New York as a reporter and analyst at WBIS-TV and WABC-AM as a commentator/analyst. In 1996, he worked at Viacom Cablevision on Long Island, N.Y., as a co-host of "Big Whistle's Hotline," a weekly one-hour television program devoted to New York's three hockey teams. Giannone was also a broadcaster and manager for Sportsticker, where his duties included supervising operations and providing broadcast talent for start-up interactive telephone sports services. In 1985, he worked at CBS Sports, where he assisted editors and producers with feature packages and statistics for "College Football Today," "The NFL Today" and "The NFL on CBS."
Giannone was a finalist for an AP Sports Editor Award for Best Coverage of a Major News Event for his coverage of the 1996 World Series and for Best Beat Reporting in the Major Newspaper Division for his coverage of the New York Mets ('95-96).
John Giannone attended Fordham University. He received a bachelor's degree in communication arts with a concentration in broadcasting.
