ED HINTON

Biography

Sports Illustrated Senior Writer Ed Hinton began working for the magazine in 1991 as a freelance writer before joining SI full-time in April 1995. Hinton primarily covers motor sports and college and pro football for SI. His attention to detail and expert ability to uncover the nuances of sport have long been his hallmarks. Hinton will be a regular contributor on the motor sports beat to CNN/SI, the 24-hour sports news network from CNN and Sports Illustrated.

Before joining SI, Ed spent five years at the Orlando (Florida) Sentinel and another twelve at the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. He has also been a contributor to GQ and Car & Driver. In 1993, Hinton co-authored "Turning the Thing Around" with former Dallas Cowboy head coach Jimmy Johnson. The book profiled Johnson and chronicled the remarkable rise of the Cowboys under his direction. Hinton has covered more than 500 auto races in the last 20 years and has won more than 20 national sportswriting awards.

Born and raised in Laurel, Mississippi, Hinton graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1970. He plays several musical instruments and enjoys fishing and chess.

Hinton currently resides in Georgia with his wife and son.
