Biography
Phil Jones is a co-host of WORLD SPORT, the international sports show that airs live on CNN/SI and CNN International (CNNI) daily at 5:30 p.m. (ET). WORLD SPORT is the sports wrap-up show that includes sports from around the globe. Jones has been with th
e network since October 1994.
Before joining CNNI, Jones was a reporter for the BBC in London. He was the network's main reporter for the 1994 Wimbledon and was responsible for the nightly news round-up on the high-profile "Wimbledon Today" program. At the BBC, Jones was also a contr
ibutor for "Grandstand," "Match of the Day," "Sportsnight" and "Sport on Friday." He was the network's reporter for such international events as the Olympics in Barcelona, the Winter Paralympics in Lillehammer, Norway, the World Athletic Championships in
Stuttgart, Germany, and the European Athletic Championships in Helsinki. Jones worked closely with anchors Desmond Lyman, Steve Rider and Sue Barker at BBC.
Prior to joining the BBC, Jones worked in print and radio journalism. He covered news and sports for the David Burke Press Agency in Manchester and was also a regular columnist for the Manchester Evening News, the second largest provincial newspaper in B
ritain. At the Piccadilly Radio Station in Manchester, the second largest independent station in England, Jones covered cricket, soccer and rugby.
Jones was an integral part of the BBC team that won "Best TV Coverage in the World" for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
Jones received diplomas with distinction in journalism, law and public administration from Richmond Journalist College in Sheffield, England.
