LAURA OKMIN BIOGRAPHY
Laura Okmin is an anchor on CNN/Sports Illustrated. Okmin joined the network in September 1996 as the Midwest region correspondent working from the Chicago bureau. Before joining CNN/Sports Illustrated, Okmin was a reporter and anchor for SportsChannel Chicago. From October 1995 through September 1996, she anchored both the 30-minute and 60-minute sportscasts, covered the Bears and conducted live post-game interviews for the duration of the Bulls' playoff run. Okmin also worked as an anchor, reporter and producer for WRCB-TV in Chattanooga, Tenn., the NBC affiliate, from December 1994 through September 1995. She was solely responsible for both the 6 and 11 p.m. weekend sportscasts, including writing, editing and producing. She also served as the weekday sports reporter for the station. Okmin also worked at WHOA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Montgomery, Ala., as a sports reporter, anchor and producer as well as a news anchor. She also served as a field producer in 1993 for ESPN. An honors student at the University of Kansas, Okmin received her bachelor's degree in journalism.
