JOHNNY PHELPS

BIOGRAPHY


Johnny Phelps is an anchor for CNN/Sports Illustrated. Most recently, Phelps was the sports director and anchor for WXLV-TV, the ABC affiliate in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Before joining WXLV-TV, Phelps worked at WGHP-TV in High Point, N.C., where he anchored traffic reports for the morning news and produced features for the evening news.

From 1986 to 1995, Phelps worked at WMAG radio in High Point, N.C., as a sports director and morning show co-host. Also in radio, he was the executive sports director at Sports Reports Network in High Point and a football and basketball analyst for the Wake Forest Sports Network in Winston-Salem, N.C. From 1972 to 1985, Phelps was an assistant sports director at WFMY-TV in Greensboro, N.C.

Phelps has been cited as TV Sportscaster of the Year by the North Carolina Association of Sports Broadcasters. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
