Just one vote

Ex-pitcher Deshaies using humor to make Hall quest

Former major league pitcher Jim Deshaies knows he doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame. After all, he does have a losing record and 4.14 lifetime ERA.

All he wants is one stinking vote.

Now a play-by-play announcer for the Houston Astros, Deshaies has a light-hearted approach in his "candidacy" to the Hall of Fame. He has a Web site, www.putjdinthehall.com and he will be a guest on CNN's Sports Tonight at 11 p.m. EST

Still, Deshaies has made it this far. He passed all the requirements to reach the Hall of Fame ballot, and he would like nothing more than to receive at least one vote from the members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Deshaies' fleeting moment of glory came on May 20, 1986, when set a modern major league record by striking out the first eight L.A. Dodgers he faced.

Also, don't forget to take the Your Choice poll and cast your own Hall of Fame ballot.
