BASEBALL TRANSACTIONS
Anaheim Angels -- Activated pitcher Mark Petkovsek from the 15-day disabled list; optioned pitcher Eric Weaver to Edmonton of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).
Cleveland Indians -- Signed pitchers Kyle Evans, Tom Canale, Luke Field, Ryan Larson, Steve Fitch, Robert Sierer, Ron Colvard, Brandon Matheny and Steve Fugarino; outfielders Ryan Church, Nathan Janowicz and Eric Crozier, infielders James Pietro, Joe Inglett; and Damon Katz and catcher Jeff Haase.
Detroit Tigers -- Activated first baseman Tony Clark from the 15-day disabled list; optioned catcher Javier Cardona to Toledo of the International League (AAA); traded outfielder Karim Garcia to the Baltimore Orioles for future considerations.
Milwaukee Brewers -- Promoted pitcher Ben Sheets to Indianapolis of the International League (AAA).
New York Mets -- Optioned pitcher Bobby J. Jones to Norfolk of the International League (AAA); recalled pitcher Bobby M. Jones from Norfolk.
Pittsburgh Pirates -- Placed pitcher Jason Schmidt on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 10, with right shoulder inflammation; recalled pitcher Bronson Arroyo from Nashville of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).
St. Louis Cardinals -- Signed pitchers Josh Axelson and Nathaniel Meza and infielders Justin Hileman and William Schmitt; assigned Axelson and Meza to New Jersey of the New York-Penn League (A); assigned Hileman and Schmitt to Johnson City of the Appalachian League (A).
Seattle Mariners -- Placed pitcher Brett Tomko on the 15-day disabled with tendinitis in his right shoulder.
Portland Sea Dogs (Eastern League/AA) -- Activated third baseman Heath Honeycutt from the disabled list; placed infielder Matt Raleigh on the disabled list.
Modesto A's (California League/A) -- Added outfielder Matt Forbes; announced catcher Miguel Olivo has been promoted to Midland of the Texas League (AA).
Schaumburg Flyers (Northern League/independent) -- Activated pitcher Todd Genke from the disabled list; released pitcher Brett Black and infielder Steve Hartsburg.

San Francisco 49ers -- Quarterback Steve Young announced his retirement.
Calgary Stampeders (CFL) -- Suspended quarterback Mike Moschetti for failing to report to training camp.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) -- Signed guard Mike Mihelic; signed running back Jeff Johnson.
Montreal Alouettes (CFL) -- Released cornerback Toyas Rainey and wide receiver Chris Philion; placed defensive back Keith Crawford, wide receiver Eric Smith and offensive tackle Robert Sampson on the suspended list.
Houston ThunderBears (Arena) -- Acquired lineman Patterson Owens from the Los Angeles Avengers for future considerations; acquired lineman Chris Maumalanga from the Buffalo Destroyers for wide receiver-defensive back Kotto Cotton; placed wide receiver-linebacker Ed Howard on injured reserve.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim -- Acquired defenseman Patrick Traverse from the Ottawa Senators for defenseman Joel Kwiatkowski.
Columbus Blue Jackets -- Acquired right wing Krzysztof Oliwa from the New Jersey Devils for future considerations; right wing Jan Caloun and a 2000 ninth-round pick from the San Jose Sharks for future considerations; named Harry Coder human resources manager, Brooks Jordan director of group sales and Jim Rankin team services coordinator.
Dallas Stars -- Signed goaltender Chad Alban to a one-year contract.
Edmonton Oilers -- Acquired left wing Patrick Cote from the Nashville Predators for a 2000 fifth-round draft pick.
Los Angeles Kings -- Signed left wing Tomas Vlasak.
Minnesota Wild -- Acquired goaltender Manny Fernandez and defenseman Brad Lukowich from the Dallas Stars for a 2000 third-round pick and a 2002 fourth-round pick; acquired defenseman Andy Sutton, a 2001 third-round pick and a 2000 seventh-round pick from the San Jose Sharks for a 2001 eighth-round pick and future considerations.
Nashville Predators -- Re-signed forward Patric Kjellberg.
New Jersey Devils -- Acquired right wing-defenseman Steve Staios from the Atlanta Thrashers for a 2000 ninth-round draft pick; acquired right wing Ed Ward from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for a 2001 seventh-round draft pick.
Philadelphia Flyers -- Acquired center Mark Janssens from the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2000 ninth-round draft pick.
St. Louis Blues -- Signed defensemen Matt Walker, Alex Khavanov and Vladimir Chebaturkin.
