Boston Red Sox -- Recalled pitcher Tim Young from Pawtucket of the International League (AAA). Detroit Tigers -- Purchased the contract of pitcher Steve Sparks from Toledo of the International League (AAA); designated pitcher Allen McDill for assignment. Houston Astros -- Placed pitcher Billy Wagner on the 15-day disabled list with a torn flexor tendon in his left elbow; recalled pitcher Jose Cabrera from New Orleans of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).
