Boston Red Sox -- Assigned infielder Andy Sheets outright to Pawtucket of the International League (AAA). Florida Marlins -- Signed pitcher Denny Bautista. Houston Astros -- Placed pitcher Billy Wagner on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Sunday, with a partial tear of the flexor tendon in his left elbow; recalled pitcher Jose Cabrera from New Orleans of the Pacific Coast League (AAA). Minnesota Twins -- Extended their contract with WCCO-AM Radio 830 through 2003. St. Louis Cardinals -- Placed second baseman Fernando Vina on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, with a strained right hamstring; activated pitcher Mike James from the 15-day disabled list. Texas Rangers -- Placed pitcher Darren Oliver on the 15-day disabled list due to weakness in his left shoulder. Midwest League (A) -- Extended the contract of president George Spelius four years.
