BASEBALL TRANSACTIONS
Anaheim Angels -- Placed catcher Matt Walbeck on the 15-day disabled list with patella tendinitis; purchased the contract of catcher Shawn Wooten from Edmonton of the Pacific Coast League (AAA); transferred pitcher Tim Belcher from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
Baltimore Orioles -- Signed pitcher Beau Hale.
Chicago White Sox -- Signed pitcher Ken Hill to a minor league contract and assigned him to Charlotte of the International League (AAA).
Detroit Tigers -- Activated pitcher Hideo Nomo from the 15-day disabled list; placed pitcher Doug Brocail on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation, retroactive to August 14.
Houston Astros -- Activated outfielder Roger Cedeno; waived outfielder Matt Mieske for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.
Kansas City Royals -- Placed pitcher Paul Spoljaric on the 15-day disabled list with a back strain; recalled pitcher Jose Santiago from Omaha of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).
Milwaukee Brewers -- Activated infielder Mark Loretta from the 15-day disabled list; optioned infielder Santiago Perez to Indianapolis of the International League.
Montreal Expos -- Placed catcher Lenny Webster on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 14, with a sore right elbow; recalled catcher Brian Schneider from Ottawa of the International League (AAA).
San Francisco Giants -- Activated pitcher Joe Nathan from the 15-day disabled list; optioned pitcher Miguel Del Toro to Fresno of the Pacific Coast league (AAA).
St. Louis Cardinals -- Recalled pitcher Britt Reames from Memphis of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).
Toronto Blue Jays -- Transferred outfielder Raul Mondesi from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
West Michigan Whitecaps (Midwest League/A) -- Placed shortstop Ramon Santiago on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 16, with an impingement in his right shoulder.
Sioux Falls Canaries (Northern League/Independent) -- Sold the contract of Enohel Polanco to the Cleveland Indians.

Charlotte Hornets -- Signed forward Lee Nailon.

Carolina Panthers -- Signed kicker Richie Cunningham; waived kicker Eric Meng and defensive tackle Antonio Dingle.
Denver Broncos -- Announced the retirement of safety Steve Atwater.
Green Bay Packers -- Placed wide receiver Anthony Lucas on the reserve-physically unable to perform list; placed running back Rondell Mealey on injured reserve.
Miami Dolphins -- Waived safety Orlondo Steinauer.
New York Giants -- Waived fullback Ron Janes.

Edmonton Oilers -- Agreed to terms with right wing Mike Grier on a two-year contract.
Detroit Red Wings -- Agreed to terms with goaltender Jason Elliott and forwards B.J. Young and Toivu Suursoo.
Pittsburgh Penguins -- Signed center Toby Petersen.
Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL) -- Agreed to terms with defenseman Brent Bilodeau; signed goaltender Karol Krizan.
Adirondack IceHawks (UHL) -- Signed defenseman Mike Varhaug.

Southland Conference -- Extended men's tennis memberships to Centenary College and University of Texas Pan-American.
Armstrong Atlantic State -- Named Flori Willie assistant women's basketball coach and Andrea Bloodworth assistant women's graduate basketball coach.
