BASEBALL TRANSACTIONS
Chicago White Sox -- Purchased the contract of pitcher Ken Hill from Charlotte of the International League (AAA); optioned pitcher Kevin Beirne to Charlotte.
Cleveland Indians -- Recalled infielder John McDonald from Buffalo of the International League (AAA); optioned infielder-outfielder Chan Perry to Buffalo; signed infielder Sean Berry to a minor league contract and assigned him to Buffalo.
Detroit Tigers -- Signed catcher Brad Wise to a minor league contract.
Los Angeles Dodgers -- Placed infielder-outfielder F.P. Santangelo on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 23, with a torn ulnar ligament in his left thumb; purchased the contract of infielder Jeff Branson from Albuquerque of the Pacific Coast League (AAA); designated pitcher Apostol Garcia for assignment.
Minnesota Twins -- Re-signed shortstop Cristian Guzman to a four-year contract with a club option for 2004.


BASKETBALL TRANSACTIONS
Los Angeles Clippers -- Named John Hammond, Dennis Johnson and Rex Kalamian assistant coaches.


FOOTBALL TRANSACTIONS
Atlanta Falcons -- Claimed defensive end Chris White off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Philadelphia Eagles -- Signed safety Tim Hauck to a one-year contract.
Washington Redskins -- Re-signed quarterback Leon Murray; waived cornerback LaFann Williams.


HOCKEY TRANSACTIONS
Columbus Blue Jackets -- Signed defensemen Kevin Dahl and Mike Gaul and left wing Mike Maneluk.
Edmonton Oilers -- Re-signed restricted free agent left wing Ethan Moreau to a three-year contract.
Minnesota Wild -- Named Dr. Sheldon Burns medical director, Dr. Joel Boyd orthopedic surgeon, Don Fuller head athletic therapist, George Kinnear strength and conditioning coach, Tony DaCosta head equipment manager, Rick Szuber and Brent Proulx assistant equipment managers and Drs. Dennis Killian, Frank Milnar and Michael Nanne team dentists.
Pittsburgh Penguins -- Re-signed restricted free agent left wing Josef Beranek.
St. Louis Blues -- Signed unrestricted free agent left wing Reid Simpson, who had been with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Orlando Solar Bears (IHL) -- Named Hubie McDonough director of hockey operations; re-signed center Mark Beaufait.
Utah Grizzlies (IHL) -- Named Craig Ludwig assistant coach.
Idaho Steelheads (WCHL) -- Signed defenseman Eric Rud.
Phoenix Mustangs (WCHL) -- Signed left wing Jeff Shevalier.

CBS Sports -- Acquired the broadcast rights to the 2001 Southeastern Conference championship game.

Cleveland Crunch (NPSL) -- Announced the retirement of defender Oscar Draguicevich.
