Boston Red Sox -- Traded outfielder Carl Everett to the Texas Rangers for pitcher Darren Oliver; Named Luis Tiant pitching coach for Lowell of the New York-Penn League (A).
Milwaukee Brewers -- Signed utilityman Mark Sweeney to a one-year contract.
Seattle Mariners -- Signed free agent pitcher Norm Charlton to a one-year contract.
Brockton (Northern League/Independent) -- Named Dave Echols general manager.
Pittsfield (Northern League/Independent) -- Named George Scott manager.


BASKETBALL TRANSACTIONS
Denver Nuggets -- Suspended coach Dan Issel for four games without pay for making a racially explicit insult at a fan after Tuesday's game with the Charlotte Hornets.
Minnesota Timberwolves -- Placed guard Felipe Lopez on the injured list with a bruised left hip; activated guard William Avery from the injured list.
Gary Steelheads (CBA) -- Waived forward Mark Atkins.
Rockford Lightning (CBA) -- Placed forward Jo Jo English on the injured list.
Kansas City Knights (ABA) -- Signed forward Reggie Slater.
