Chicago Cubs -- Signed free agent outfielder Moises Alou, who had been with the Houston Astros, to a three-year contract with a mutual option for 2005; traded outfielder Michael Tucker to the Kansas City Royals for a player to be named. Detroit Tigers -- Signed pitchers Tim Adkins, Oscar Henriquez, Brian Powell, Julio Santana and Jamie Walker; catcher Yohanny Valera; infielders Adam Riggs and Juan Sosa; and outfielder Chad Alexander to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training. Oakland Athletics -- Named Eric Kubota director of scouting; Chris Pittaro national field coordinator; and Matt Keough and Ron Hopkins special assistants to the general manager. San Diego Padres -- Agreed to terms with pitcher Kevin Jarvis on a three-year contract extension with a club option for 2005. San Francisco Giants -- Named Joe Lefebvre first base coach.
