BASEBALL

Anaheim Angels -- Agreed to terms on a minor-league contract with outfielder Patrick Lennon and invited him to spring training as a non-roster player.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Announced the retirement of catcher Darren Daulton, who finished his major league career with the Florida Marlins.

San Francisco Giants -- Purchased the contract of pitcher Chris Brock from Fresno of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).

Texas Rangers -- Agreed to terms on a minor-league contract with pitcher Jose Guzman and invited him to spring training as a non-roster player.

Cape Fear Crocs (South Atlantic League/A) -- Promoted Brad Taylor to general manager.

BASKETBALL

Cleveland Cavaliers -- Activated guard Bob Sura from the injured list.

Dallas Mavericks -- Placed guard Robert Pack on the injured list with a torn right thumb ligaments; activated swingman Bubba Wells from the injured list.

Miami Heat -- Placed forward Terry Mills on the injured list with inflammation in his left knee; activated guard Charles Smith from the injured list.

New York Knicks -- Signed guard Brooks Thompson to a 10-day contract; placed forward Ronnie Grandison on the injured list with patellar tendinitis of the left knee.

Phoenix Suns -- Placed forward Cedric Ceballos on the injured list with a strained right calf; activated center Horacio Llamas from the injured list.

FOOTBALL

NFL -- Appointed Rich McKay co-chairman of the NFL competition committee.

New England Patriots -- Re-signed free agent linebacker Bernard Russ.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Re-signed wide receiver Brice Hunter to a two-year contract.

Milwaukee Mustangs (Arena) -- Re-signed kicker Kenny Stucker to a one-year contract.

HOCKEY

NHL -- Suspended Phoenix Coyotes right wing Rick Tocchet five games, without pay, and fined him $1,000, as a result of a kneeing incident against Detroit's Steve Yzerman in a January 28th game.

Montreal Canadiens -- Assigned forwards Eric Houde and Terry Ryan to Fredericton of the American Hockey League.

Baton Rouge Kingfish (ECHL) -- Added center Eric Montreuil to the roster; lifted the suspension of defenseman Rob McCaig and waived him.

Columbus Chill (ECHL) -- Activated forward Tim Fingerhut from the injured reserve list; waived defenseman Colin Muldoon.

Dayton Bombers (ECHL) -- Activated defenseman Troy Christensen from the injured reserve list.

Louisiana Ice Gators (ECHL) -- Activated defenseman Chad Nelson from the injured reserve list.

New Orleans Brass (ECHL) -- Added left wing Peter McCague to the roster.

Pensacola Ice Pilots (ECHL) -- Placed forward Rodney Bowers on the seven-day injured reserve list and forward John Guirestante on the 14-day injured reserve list; moved forward Dan Marcotte from the seven-day to the 14-day injured reserve list; activated forward Shane Calder and defenseman Jon Dunmar from the injured reserve list.

Richmond Renegades (ECHL) -- Added goaltender Jeff Trigg as the emergency backup; released goaltender Bob Jones as the emergency backup; activated defensemen Kevin Knopp and Jaynen Rissling from the injured reserve list; waived defenseman Nate Smith.

Roanoke Express (ECHL) -- Lifted the suspension of defenseman Kelly Hollingshead and traded him to the Baton Rouge Kingfish for forward J.C. Ruid and the rights to defenseman Patrick Charbonneau.

Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) -- Traded the rights to goaltender Olie Sundstrom to the New Orleans Brass for center Eric Montreuil; traded Montreuil and defenseman Patrick Charbonneau to the Baton Rouge Kingfish for defenseman Trevor Demmans.

Bakersfield Fog (WCHL) -- Signed defenseman Sean Patrick; suspended defenseman Jason White.

San Diego Gulls (WCHL) -- Activated center Brad Belland from the injured list; moved center Mark Stitt to the 14-day injured list.

Tucson Gila Monsters (WCHL) -- Traded right wings Joey Beaudry and Eric Weischelbaumer to the Bakersfield Fog for future considerations.

SOCCER

Major League Soccer -- Allocated Yugoslavian midfielder Refik Sabanadzovic to the Kansas City Wizards.

Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS) -- Named Ralph Perez assistant coach.

Toronto Lynx (A-League) -- Re-signed head coach Peter Pinizzotto and named him assistant general manager.

COLLEGE

UCLA -- Named Todd Saldana women's soccer coach.
