BASEBALL
Boston Red Sox -- Signed second baseman Donnie Sadler and
outfielder Jim Chamblee to one-year contracts; agreed to terms
on a four-year contract and an option for 2002 with outfielder
Troy O'Leary.
Cleveland Indians -- Named Felix Fermin manager of the Indians'
Dominican Summer League team.
Colorado Rockies -- Agreed to one-year contracts with pitcher
Mike DeJean and outfielder Curtis Goodwin.
Detroit Tigers -- Signed pitchers Matt Drews, Mike Drumright,
Willis Roberts, John Rosengren and Sean Runyan; catcher Paul
Bako and infielders Richard Almanzar and Gabe Alvarez to
one-year contracts.
New York Mets -- Acquired pitcher Al Leiter and infielder Ralph
Milliard from the Florida Marlins for pitchers Jesus Sanchez and
A.J. Burnett and outfielder Robert Stratton; signed pitchers
Turk Wendell, Derek Wallace and Jason Isringhausen to one-year
contracts.
New York Yankees -- Acquired second baseman Chuck Knoblauch from
the Minnesota Twins for pitchers Eric Milton and Danny Mota,
outfielder Brian Buchanan and shortstop Cristian Guzman and cash
considerations.
Texas Rangers -- Invited the following 15 players to spring
training camp as non-roster players: pitchers Terry Clark, R.A.
Dickey, Jose Guzman, Scott Klingenbeck, Alan Levine, Mark Small
and Todd Van Poppel; catchers John Ellis and Rick Wrona;
infielders Scott Cooper and Scott Sheldon and outfielders Joe
Hall, Warren Newson, Les Norman and Mike Simms; agreed to terms
with pitchers Darren Oliver, Aaron Sele and Matt Perisho on
one-year contracts.
Toronto Blue Jays -- Agreed to terms with outfielder Shawn Green
on a two-year contract.
FOOTBALL
Minnesota Vikings -- Named Andre Patterson defensive line coach.
Portland Forest Dragons (Arena) -- Named Bob Cortese assistant
coach/offensive coordinator.
HOCKEY
National Hockey League -- Suspended Tampa Bay Lightning
defenseman Bryan Marchment at least one game, pending a hearing,
for kneeing Kevin Dineen of the Carolina Hurricanes in a
February 4th game.
Mighty Ducks of Anaheim -- Acquired center Travis Green,
defenseman Doug Houda and right wing Tony Tuzzolino from the New
York Islanders for defenseman J.J. Daigneault, right wing Joe
Sacco and center Mark Janssens.
New York Islanders -- Acquired center Trevor Linden from the
Vancouver Canucks for defenseman Bryan McCabe, right wing Todd
Bertuzzi and a 1998 third-round draft choice.
Toronto Maple Leafs -- Assigned center Jamie Baker to Chicago of
the International Hockey League.
Vancouver Canucks -- Assigned defenseman Chris McCallister to
Syracuse of the American Hockey League.
Portland Pirates (AHL) -- Signed defenseman Corey Neilson;
recalled right wing Rob Bonneau from Hampton Roads of the East
Coast Hockey League. Accepted left wing Jaroslav Svejkovsky on
loan from the Washington Capitals.
Rochester Americans (AHL) -- Signed center Dave Seitz.
Chicago Wolves (IHL) -- Called up left wing Chad Remackal from
the Mobile Mysticks of the East Coast Hockey League.
Kitchener Rangers (OHL) -- Named Jamie McDonald general manager.
West Coast Hockey League -- Suspended Anchorage Aces coach Walt
Poddubny for one game; suspended Anchorage Aces defenseman Mark
LaForge 20 games.
Reno Rage (WCHL) -- Signed forward John Czarnik; activated
defenseman Dean Shmyr from the injured list.
San Diego Gulls (WCHL) -- Moved defenseman Jason Courtemanche to
the 14-day injured list; activated center Mark Stitt from the
injured list.
Tacoma Sabercats (WCHL) -- Signed forward John Coyle.
SOCCER
Baltimore Spirit (NPSL) -- Signed midfielder Dave Reichart for
the remainder of the season.
Buffalo Blizzard (NPSL) -- Acquired defenseman Rick Titus from
the Montreal Impact for future considerations; released
defenseman Chris Fox.
Wichita Wings (NPSL) -- Signed forward David Doyle.
Minnesota Thunder (A-League) -- Re-signed sweeper Mark Abboud.
COLLEGE
Canisius -- Reinstated sophomore forward Mike McCarthy to the
men's basketball team after he served a one-game suspension for
violating team rules.
Eastern Illinois -- Promoted Bob Krieger to defensive
coordinator and Roy Wittke to assistant head coach.
Lamar -- Announced the resignation of women's head basketball
coach David McKey, effective at the end of the season.
San Jose State -- Named Chuck Bell athletics director.
