BASEBALL

Anaheim Angels -- Named Tim Mead vice president of communications, Ken Forsch assistant general manager, Jeff Parker director of player development, Larry Babcock manager of baseball information, and Nancy Mazmanian manager, media services.

Detroit Tigers -- Agreed to terms with pitchers Bryce Florie and Brian Moehler on one-year contracts.

Kansas City Royals -- Signed pitchers Tim Byrdak, Roland De La Maza, Pat Flury and Ken Ray; infielder Carlos Febles and outfielder Mark Quinn to one-year contracts.

Minnesota Twins -- Agreed to terms with shortstop Pat Meares on a one-year contract, thus avoiding salary arbitration; signed outfielder Ryan Radmanovich to a one-year contract.

New York Mets -- Agreed to terms with third baseman Edgardo Alfonzo on a one-year contract, thus avoiding salary arbitration.

Oakland Athletics --- Agreed to terms with pitchers Willie Adams, Tom Bennett, Tim Kubinski, Brad Rigby, Blake Stein, and Jay Witasick; catcher Ramon Hernandez; infielder Mark Bellhorn and outfielders Ryan Christenson and Brian Lesher to one-year contracts.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Agreed to terms with third baseman-outfielder John Mabry on a one-year contract, thus avoiding salary arbitration.

San Francisco Giants -- Named Jim Fregosi special assistant to the general manager and Ted Uhlaender special assistant of player personnel; promoted Matt Nerland to assistant director of player personnel; Bob Hartsfield and Joe DiCarlo special assignment scouts; John DiPuglia assistant coordinator of international operations and Jorge Arazmendi, Eric Mangham, Cesar Navarro and Carlos Ramirez scouts.

Seattle Mariners -- Signed pitcher Felipe Lira to a one-year contract.

Indianapolis Indians (International League/AAA) -- Signed outfielders Craig Griffey, Doug Jennings and Mark Johnson and pitcher Rodney Bolton.

BASKETBALL

New York Knicks -- Signed guard Brooks Thompson to a contract for the remainder of the season.

Washington Wizards -- Signed guard Lawrence Moten to a 10-day contract.

FOOTBALL

Carolina Panthers -- Released wide receiver Ernie Mills.

San Francisco 49ers -- Waived cornerback Rod Woodson and linebacker Kevin Greene.

Dallas Stars -- Assigned goaltender Manny Fernandez and left wing Jamie Wright to the Michigan K-Wings of the International Hockey League.

Cincinnati Cyclones (IHL) -- Traded left wing Mike Casselman and right wing Steven King to the Rochester Americans for left wing Brent Fedyk and center Martin Menard.

Cleveland Lumberjacks (IHL) -- Returned defenseman Steve Wilson to Chesapeake of the East Coast Hockey League; assigned goaltender Mike Tamburro to Chesapeake.

Fort Wayne Komets (IHL) -- Assigned goaltender Judd Lambert to Dayton of the East Coast Hockey League.

Michigan K-Wings (IHL) -- Returned center Dan Hendrickson to Dayton of the East Coast Hockey League.

Providence Bruins (AHL) -- Assigned goaltender Paxton Schafer to Charlotte of the East Coast Hockey League; returned defenseman Dwight Parrish to Dayton of the East Coast Hockey League.

Springfield Falcons (AHL) -- Assigned goaltender Sinue Wallenheimo to Mississippi of the East Coast Hockey League.

Charlotte Checkers (ECHL) -- Released goaltender Evgeny Ryabchikov.

Chesapeake Icebreakers (ECHL) -- Released goaltender Ron Ruest.

Hampton Roads Admirals (ECHL) -- Added right wing Dominic Maltais to the roster.

Huntington Blizzard (ECHL) -- Activated forward Ray Edwards.

Louisiana Ice Gators (ECHL) -- Traded forward Chad Richard to the Louisville River Frogs for cash; added forward Marty Yewchuk to the roster.

Louisville River Frogs (ECHL) -- Placed goaltender Dieter Kochan on the 7-day injured list; moved defenseman Stephane Madore from the 7-day to the 14-day injured list; released goaltender Brian Hamilton.

Mississippi Sea Wolves (ECHL) -- Released goaltender Trent Mann.

Peoria Rivermen (ECHL) -- Added forward Rodney Bowers to the roster.

Richmond Renegades (ECHL) -- Suspended center Brendan Flynn; waived defenseman Derek Lowe; added goaltender Darren Madeley to the roster.

South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) -- Activated goaltender Jason Fitzsimmons; placed defenseman John Blessman on the 7-day injured list; added center Christian Skoryna to the roster.

Idaho Steelheads (WHL) -- Agreed to terms with defenseman Daniel Larin; received defenseman Andrew Plumb from Bakersfield for future considerations.

MetroStars (MLS) -- Acquired Ecuadorian international midfielder Wellington Sanchez.
