Anaheim Angels -- Agreed to terms on a one-year contract with pitcher Allen Watson, avoiding salary arbitration.

Arizona Diamondbacks -- Traded minor-league infielder Mike Bell to the New York Mets for minor-league pitcher Joe Lisio.

Chicago Cubs -- Agreed to terms on a one-year contract with infielder Jose Hernandez, avoiding salary arbitration.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Signed pitcher Chris Howard to a minor-league contract and invited him to spring training.

New York Mets -- Extended their player developmental contract with Binghamton of the Eastern League (AA) for four more years.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Agreed to terms on a one-year contract with first baseman Rico Brogna, avoiding salary arbitration.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Designated pitcher Ken Robinson for assignment.

Waterbury Spirit (Northeast League/Independent) -- Named Michael Weisbart director of marketing.

Southern Minny Stars (Northwoods League/Independent) -- Signed infielder Ben Brown and pitcher Eric Bowers.

BASKETBALL

NBA -- Fined Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Mike Fratello $5,000 for his remarks about the referees following a game against Atlanta on February 5th.

Golden State Warriors -- Placed guard Brian Shaw on the injured list with a right groin strain; signed guard Brandon Williams to a 10-day contract.

FOOTBALL

Atlanta Falcons -- Re-signed kicker Morten Andersen to a three-year contract.

Cincinnati Bengals -- Signed wide receiver Darnay Scott to a five-year contract.

Jacksonville Jaguars -- Named Greg Finnegan assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Oakland Raiders -- Named Skip Peete running backs coach; named David Shaw offensive quality control coach.

HOCKEY

Calgary Flames -- Loaned defenseman Kevin Dahl to Chicago of the International Hockey League.

Portland Pirates (AHL) -- Assigned center Rob Bonneau to Hampton Roads of the East Coast Hockey League.

Rochester Americans (AHL) -- Assigned defenseman Jared Bednar and forward Mark Dutiaume to South Carolina of the East Coast Hockey League; returned forward Dave Seitz to South Carolina.

International Hockey League -- Announced the Cincinnati Cyclones will host the 1999 All-Star Game.

Chicago Wolves (IHL) -- Released left wing Chad Remackel and defensemen Jason Hehr and Shawn Reid.

Detroit Vipers (IHL) -- Acquired goaltender Rich Parent from the Manitoba Moose for future considerations.

Louisiana Ice Gators (ECHL) -- Activated forward Ryan Shanahan from the injured reserve list; placed forward Scott McKay on the seven-day injured reserve list.

South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) -- Placed goaltender Bob Delorimiere on the 14-day injured reserve list.

SOCCER

Charleston Battery (A-League) -- Signed midfielder Rivers Guthrie.

Montreal Impact (A-League) -- Fired head coach Johan Aarnio; promoted Paul Kitson to interim head coach.

COLLEGE

Louisville -- Named Julie Hermann senior woman administrator and Jill Reeve field hockey coach.

North Dakota State -- Announced the resignation of women's soccer coach Gordon J.C. Henderson to take the same position at Idaho State.

South Alabama -- Named Bob Weltlich permanent men's basketball coach and signed him to a four-year contract.

GENERAL

Washington Sports & Entertainment -- Announced it will combine operations of the MCI Center, Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, Centre Management and Centre Group under the name of Washington Sports & Entertainment.
