Pittsburgh Pirates -- Placed infielder Pat Meares on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 1, with a sprained left wrist; purchased the contract of pitcher Kris Benson from Nashville of the Pacific Coast League (AAA). San Francisco Giants -- Named Elizabeth Roodner Murphy associate general counsel. Seattle Mariners -- Placed shortstop Alex Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 7, with a torn left knee ligament; announced they will recall pitcher Ken Cloude from Tacoma of the Pacific Coast League (AAA) on Saturday.
