BASEBALL

National League -- Suspended San Francisco Giants third baseman Charlie Hayes four games and fined him an undisclosed amount for his actions in a brawl with the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 16.

Baltimore Orioles -- Placed third baseman Cal Ripken Jr. on the 15-day disabled list with nerve irritation in his back; recalled infielder Jesse Garcia from Rochester of the International League (AAA); placed first baseman Will Clark on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 18 with a fractured left thumb.

Cincinnati Reds -- Purchased the contract of catcher Guillermo Garcia from the Florida Marlins.

Florida Marlins -- Promoted outfielder Glenn Reeves to Calgary of the Pacific Coast League (AAA) from Portland of the Eastern League (AA); promoted infielder Larry Kleinz to Portland from Brevard County of the Florida State League (A).

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Purchased the contract of pitcher Jamie Arnold from Albuquerque of the Pacific Coast League (AAA); designated catcher Rick Wilkins for assignment.

San Francisco Giants -- Placed outfielder Barry Bonds on the 15-day disabled list with a left elbow and triceps injury; recalled pitcher Joe Nathan from Shreveport of the Texas League (AA).

Calgary Cannons (Pacific Coast League/AAA) -- Placed infielder Russ Morman on the disabled list with a fractured thumb; recalled outfielder Glenn Reeves from Portland of the Eastern League (AA).

High Desert Mavericks (California League/A) -- Activated outfielder Abraham Nunez from the disabled list; released outfielder Sandy McKinnon; placed third baseman Casey Cuntz on the disabled list with a broken nose; recalled third baseman Francisco Belliard from extended spring training; sent pitcher Roberto Manzueta to extended spring training.

Somerset Patriots (Atlantic League/Independent) -- Signed pitchers Darrin Winston and Dwayne Henry and outfielder Bobby Bonds, Jr.

BASKETBALL

USA Basketball -- Named Rob Evans coach and Jerry Dunn and Dave Odom assistants on the world junior championship team.

New Hampshire Thunder Loons (USBL) -- Traded center Dennis Davis to Pennsylvania for future considerations.

Tampa Bay Windjammers (USBL) -- Traded forward Greg Stolt to Gulf Coast for guard-forward Raja Bell.

Kansas Cagerz (USBL) -- Named Edward Kozol assistant coach.

Gulf Coast SunDogs (USBL) -- Signed center Clifford Rozier.

FOOTBALL

Baltimore Ravens -- Signed safety Jermaine Derricott.

Dallas Cowboys -- Signed wide receiver Bill Powell.

Jacksonville Jaguars -- Re-signed unrestricted free agent linebacker Bryan Schwartz.

New England Patriots -- Signed the following rookie free agents: cornerback Jason Bray, defensive ends Willie Cohens and Tim Martin, guard Daniel Collins, defensive tackles Garrett Johnson and Jonathan McCall, wide receiver Nafis Karim, tight end John Lumpkin and Devon Smith and tackle Kendall Mack.

New Orleans Saints -- Signed tight end Glenn Mitts.

San Francisco 49ers -- Signed linebacker Tito Hannah

Tennessee Titans -- Agreed to terms with the following rookie free agents: fullback Garett Gould, linebackers David Stroshine and Delaunta Cameron, tackle Ian Rafferty, guard Ben Adams, center Jason Gamble, tight end Aaron Bryant, defensive lineman Matt Callandro and Albrey Battle, wide receiver Everett Burnett and safety Kevin Sigler.

Saskatchewan Roughriders (CFL) -- Signed running back Mike Maurer to a two-year contract with an option for 2001.

Grand Rapids Rampage (Arena) -- Re-signed WR/DB Stan Petry; placed WR/DB Anthony Gary, Eldren Milton and Gregory Spann on waivers.

HOCKEY

Calgary Flames -- Assigned defenseman Wade Belak and left wing Hnat Domenichelli to Saint John of the American Hockey League.

Carolina Hurricanes -- Recalled forwards Craig MacDonald, Byron Ritchie and Shane Willis, defensemen Steve Halko and Mike Rucinski and goaltender Mike Fountain from New Haven of the American Hockey League.

Chicago Blackhawks -- Assigned left wing Jean-Yves Leroux and right wing Jean-Pierre Dumont to Chicago of the International Hockey League.

Dallas Stars -- Assigned defenseman Petr Buzek and forward Jon Sim to Michigan of the International Hockey League; assigned goaltender Manny Fernandez to Houston of the IHL.

Asheville Smoke (United Hockey League) -- Signed right wing Lindsay Vallis and left wing Fredrick Svensson.

Idaho Steelheads (Western Professional Hockey League) -- Re-signed goaltender Nicolas Chabot; signed goaltender Dan Marcotte.

Dallas Burn (MLS) -- Signed Colombian forward John Jairo Trellez.
