BASEBALL

American League -- Suspended pitcher Brett Hinchliffe of the Seattle Mariners and catcher Todd Greene of the Anaheim Angels for three games for their part in a benches-clearing incident during a game on Sunday.

Cincinnati Reds -- Activated pitcher Denny Neagle from the 15-day disabled list; optioned pitcher Rick Greene to Indianapolis of the International League (AAA).

Houston Astros -- Promoted Duone Byars to advertising manager and Kelly Makimaa to marketing manager; named Todd Fedewa communications manager.

Kansas City Royals -- Recalled pitcher Terry Mathews from Omaha of the Pacific Coast League (AAA); outrighted pitcher Brian Barber to Omaha.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Placed pitcher Antonio Osuna on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 18, with a bone spur in his right elbow; recalled pitcher Jeff Kubenka from Albuquerque of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).

Milwaukee Brewers -- Placed pitcher Chad Fox on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow; activated pitcher Cal Eldred from the 15-day disabled list.

Durham Bulls (International League/AAA) -- Placed pitcher Roger Bailey on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow.

Shreveport Captains (Texas League) -- Recalled pitcher Dan Ricabal from San Jose of the California League (Class A).

San Jose Giants (California League) -- Recalled pitcher Joe Pourron from extended spring training.

Waterbury Spirit (Northern League) -- Re-signed pitcher J.J. Munoz to a one-year contract.

Lehigh Valley Black Diamonds (Atlantic League/independent) -- Signed pitchers Juan Castillo, Rod Getz and Brian Stumpf, infielders Angel Pagan and Jose Viera and outfielders Danny Perez and Eddie Rivero.

Newark Bears (Atlantic League/independent) -- Signed infielder Juan Pacheco.

Somerset Patriots (Atlantic League/independent) -- Signed outfielder Dwight Maness and catcher Jay Laub.

BASKETBALL

Boston Celtics -- Activated center Eric Riley from the injured list; placed guard Kenny Anderson on the injured list with a strained right hamstring.

Houston Rockets -- Activated guard Brent Price from the injured list; placed forward Othella Harrington on the injured list following left foot surgery.

Minnesota Timberwolves -- Activated guards Anthony Peeler and Terrell Brandon from the injured list; placed guard Reggie Jordan on the injured list with a right ankle sprain and guard-forward Malik Sealy on the injured list with a left ankle sprain.

New York Knicks -- Relieved Ernie Grunfeld of his duties as president and general manager and reassigned him to the role of special consultant; announced Madison Square President Dave Checketts will assume the day-to-day operations of the team.

Utah Starzz (WNBA) -- Named Tami Scott media relations manager.

Tampa Bay Windjammers (USBL) -- Traded guard Kerry Thompson to the Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs for future considerations.

FOOTBALL

New York Giants -- Signed rookie free agent defensive tackle Steven Konopka.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Released quarterback Jeff Brohm.

Tennessee Titans -- Signed rookie free agent center Craig Page.

Washington Redskins -- Signed free agent kicker Cary Blanchard; signed free agent tight end Troy Sadowski, who had been with the Jacksonville Jaguars; signed the following rookie free agents: defensive end Derrick Ham, wide receivers Darrius Thompson and Kenny Mitchell, safety Kevin Peoples, tight end Robert Tardio, defensive tackle Rod Walker and guard Mike Webster.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) -- Signed defensive end Chris McNeil.

HOCKEY

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim -- Recalled goaltender Tom Askey from Cincinnati of the International Hockey League; assigned left wing Mike Leclerc and defenseman Scott Ferguson to Cincinnati.

Phoenix Coyotes -- Recalled defenseman Brad Tiley from Springfield of the American Hockey League.

Vancouver 86ers (A-League) -- Signed midfielders Nico Berg and Alfredo Valente to one-year contracts.

Cal Poly SLO -- Named Brock Berryhill defensive backs coach, Shane Prosser defensive line coach and Steve Loop tight ends coach.

Clemson -- Announced that quarterback Slade Nagle will transfer to McNeese State at the end of the semester.

Denver -- Named Erik Rasmussen director of sports medicine.

Kentucky Wesleyan -- Announced St. John's University center Albert Richardson will transfer to the school.

Long Beach State -- Granted center Ian Milley his release from the men's basketball team.

Merrimack -- Named Ken Golner sports information director.
