Baltimore Orioles -- Recalled pitcher Rocky Coppinger from Rochester of the International League (AAA). Chicago Cubs -- Placed pitcher Kevin Tapani on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 13, with right shoulder tightness; recalled pitcher Richard Barker from Iowa of the Pacific Coast League (AAA). Detroit Tigers -- Signed infielder Damion Easley to a four-year contract extension through 2004. Minnesota Twins -- Transferred pitcher Hector Carrasco to the 60-day disabled list; claimed pitcher Jack Cressend off waivers from the Boston Red Sox and optioned him to New Britain of the Eastern League (Double-A). Oakland Athletics -- Placed pitcher Kevin Jarvis on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 19 with a blood clot of his left index finger; recalled pitcher Brad Rigby from Vancouver of the Pacific Coast League (AAA). Tampa Bay Devil Rays -- Acquired shortstop Bolivar Volquez from the Baltimore Orioles to complete a March 29 trade. Texas Rangers -- Placed pitcher John Burkett on the 15-day disabled list with tightness of the right shoulder; recalled pitcher Mike Venafro from Oklahoma of the Pacific Coast League (AAA). USA Basketball -- Named Jay Harrington of Belleville Area College and Dan Monson of Gonzaga assistant coaches for the 1999 USA Basketball Men's World University Games Team; named Ron Bradley, Frank Burnell, Tim Carter, Steve Dodd, Paul Hewitt and Russ Pennell court coaches for Men's National Team Trials. FOOTBALL Cincinnati Bengals -- Re-signed linebacker Billy Granville to a one-year contract; signed wide receiver Jason Shelley to a two-year contract; signed the following rookie free agents: fullback Anthony Cleary, tackle Brien Hanley, center Brian Uhl, linebacker Ben Peterson, cornerback Marcus Parks and kicker Derek Schorejs. Cleveland Browns -- Acquired running back Sedrick Shaw from the New England Patriots for past considerations.
