Chicago Cubs -- Signed catcher Jeff Reed for the remainder of the season with a club option for 2000; optioned pitcher Rodney Myers to Iowa of the Pacific Coast League (AAA). Florida Marlins -- Promoted pitcher Gary Knotts to Portland of the Eastern League (AA) from Brevard of the Florida State League (A). New York Mets -- Optioned pitcher Octavio Dotel to Norfolk of the International League (AAA); recalled third baseman Mike Kinkade from Norfolk. Pittsburgh Pirates -- Activated pitcher Mike Williams from the 15-day disabled list; optioned pitcher Jimmy Anderson to Nashville of the Pacific Coast League (AAA); purchased the contract of catcher Chris Tremie from Nashville; transferred pitcher Rich Loiselle from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list; optioned catcher Yamid Haad to Altoona of the Eastern League (AA). Jacksonville Suns (Southern League/AA) -- Announced the resignation of assistant general manager Todd Budnick; placed pitcher Keilan Smith on the disabled list.
